In the summer of 2016 I took part in a bike ride to raise money for Nalango School in Uganda. I flew to Barcelona, joined a team of 40 riders and then pedalled over the Pyrenees and back to West Sussex. It took us us 2 weeks; we rode nearly 1000 miles and took on some sizable mountain climbs.
We are rode in memory of Rob Gauntlett and James Atkinson who died in a climbing accident in the Alps in 2009, both aged just 21 years old. Rob and James went to Christs’ Hospital School and Rob was the youngest Brit to climb Everest (aged just 19). We also rode to remember Vaughan Holme and Jack Hutton-Potts who also sadly passed away whilst climbing in Wales in 2013. All of the money raised (in excess of £20,000) will go to Nalango School in Uganda. It will be spent on a dorm room for students, four teacher's houses, forty bunk beds, ten laptops, some sports and music equipment and some textbooks. We hope to make the world of difference to the lives of the students there.
